UK National Body activity report

August 2006 - July 2007

The UK participant committee for SC22 is BSI IST/005 Programming =
languages,
their environments and system software interfaces

Technical work

Almost all of the technical work of IST/005 is in relation to SC22 =
projects,
and it maintains technical panels which co-ordinate the UK contribution =
to
the SC22 WGs in which the UK is active. These panels advise IST/005 on
matters such as letter ballots.

In addition the UK provides the secretariat and convenor for WG5 =
(Fortran)
and for WG19 (Formal Specification Languages) as well as the chair of =
the
Austin Joint Working Group (POSIX). The UK also provides the Project
Editors: for two parts of the Fortran Standard and for two of the =
Fortran
Technical Reports, for the standards for Pascal, Extended Pascal, =
Prolog,
VDM, Z and Extended BNF, for Technical Reports on Ada (two), C++ and =
POSIX.

The UK is active in, and maintains panels for - WG4 (COBOL), WG5 =
(Fortran),
WG9 (Ada), WG11 (Bindings), WG16 (Lisp), WG17 (Prolog), WG19 (Formal
Specification Languages) for both VDM-SL and for Z, WG21 (C++), and OWG
(Vulnerabilities). Other panels monitor Linux, C# and Common Language
Infrastructure (participating informally in the ECMA revision process). =
The
UK C panel is in the process of being reconstituted, but individuals =
from
the UK participate in the work of WG14.

Concerns

Active participation continues to be a concern to the UK, especially of
cross-language groups such as WG11.
