Ecma International External Liaison Report for 2004-2005
=20
Prepared for the ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 22 Plenary
in Mt. Tremblant, Quebec, Canada

September/October, 2005

Prepared by Rex Jaeschke

Date: 2005-07-05

Ecma currently has one Technical Committee, TC39, working on =
SC=A022-related
projects. TC39's work is divided among the following Task Groups (TGs):

1. TC39/TG1 (ECMAScript language): The current standard is ECMA-262, =
3rd
Edition - December 1999, which was published as ISO/IEC 16262:2002(E), =
2nd
Edition. Work on the next version is continuing. The editor of record =
for
the standard is Francis Cheng. An adjunct standard, ECMAScript for XML
(E4X), was adopted by the Ecma GA in June 2004 as ECMA 357, and was
processed by JTC 1 via the Fast-Track mechanism. The editor of record =
for
this standard is Jeff Dyer.

No Defect Reports have been received in the past year.

2. TC39/TG2 (C# language): The current standard is ECMA-334, 3rd =
Edition -
June 2005, and is currently being processed by JTC 1 via the Fast-Track
mechanism. The editor of record is Rex Jaeschke.

No Defect Reports have been received in the past year. However, =
numerous
informal questions and suggestions from the Japanese National Body =
(JIS)
were handled by email as JIS members translated the standard into =
Japanese.

3. TC39/TG3 (Common Language Infrastructure): The current standard is
ECMA-335, 3rd Edition - June 2005. Two companion Technical Reports are =
ECMA
TR/84, 3rd Edition - June 2005 and ECMA TR/89, 1st Edition - June 2005. =
All
three are currently being processed by JTC 1 via the Fast-Track =
mechanism.
The editor of record for all three is Rex Jaeschke.

No Defect Reports have been received in the past year.

4. TC39/TG4 (Eiffel Language): The current standard is ECMA-367, 1st =
Edition
- June 2005, and is currently being processed by JTC 1 via the =
Fast-Track
mechanism. The editor of record is Prof. Bertrand Meyer.

5. TC39/TG5 (C++/CLI language): This language adds extensions to JTC =
1/SC
22/WG 21's C++=A0language standard ISO/IEC 14882:2003 to support the =
Common
Language Infrastructure standard. The editor of record is Rex Jaeschke. =

C++/CLI is not being defined in isolation from Standard=A0C++; quite =
the
contrary. All TG5 documents are made available to WG=A021 members, a =
joint
TG5-WG=A021 email reflector handles technical discussions, and WG=A021 =
members
are invited to attend TG5 meetings. A number of C++/CLI's innovations =
have
been submitted to WG=A021 for its consideration as additions to a =
future
version of the C++=A0standard.

6. Ecma offers to SC 22 intermediate versions of any of the above =
up-coming
Fast-Track proposals should SC 22 want to receive them.
