September 8, 2003
To: ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 22
From: Japan
Subject: Japanese position to SC 22 N3623

As the result of cooperative work among ISO/IEC JTC 1/SC 22/WG15, IEEE,
The Open Group and The Austin Group, stable POSIX standards ISO/IEC
9945:2003, which completely consistent with defacto UNIX standard and its
implementations, have been established. Since the ISO/IEC 9945:2003 is
stable enough, Japan does not expect needs of substantial enhancement
to the standards. Therefore, Japan would support US contribution
SC 22 N3623 on disbandment of WG15.

Japan also suggests SC 22 to have an appreciation resolution in the coming
SC 22 plenary meeting for its WG15 and external bodies who made significant
contributions to the establishment of ISO/IEC 9945:2003.
