National Activity Report from the Netherlands to the SC22 Plenary,
Hawaii (USA), 17-20 September 2001

The Dutch Programming Language Committee has currently 14 members and meets
2-3 times per year to discuss SC22 issues and, when necessary, relevant
JTC1
documents.

There is active participation from the Netherlands in the SC22 WGs on
COBOL,
Fortran, Ada, bindings, C, Modula-2, POSIX and C++. Other SC22 projects,
such as APL, VDM, Prolog and Internationalization are followed on a more
individual basis.

There will be no delegation from the Netherlands to the September 2001
Plenary. However, Mr. Jon Diamond (UK) will carry the Dutch proxy.

Through this report we respectfully submit our input on some of the items
on the agenda (as in N3292) for the Plenary.

Item 8.13.1: - the Netherlands supports the C++ NWI.

Item 11.2, specifically on document N3257: the Netherlands supports the
resolution in the document. Furthermore, we suggest that documents that
come to the end of their (standards) life cycle, and hence have no longer
a commercial value to the standards community, be made freely available
through some (the ITTF?) website.

Item 12.7: the Netherlands supports the WG9 request to make TR 15942
freely available on the web.

Finally the Netherlands submits the following observation as a possible
new agenda item: under the rules and regulations of ISO/IEC 15897,
CEN TC304 does not qualify as a Sponsoring Authority, and hence the
submission as in SC22 N3265, should not have entered the SC22 process
and should formally be withdrawn.

We wish you a good meeting.

W. F. Wakker, Chairman
September 2001
